These utterly wonderful clay birds are doing the rounds on the blogosphere (India Knight's Posterous via Tea for Joy) - but how could I *not* post about them? They're birds. They're made in London. Heck, they're even made from London itself (clay, to be exact). Historical too - the clay is dug up from the site of an old Victorian warehouse in Islington, and dates back to "the Palaeogene period, 50-60 million years ago ... when a warm tropical sea covered London". Swooon. You can get them from Folksy (but they appear to be sold-out at the moment), or check out the blog.
I saw them yesterday at the We Make Fair. She said she took them off Folksy so she would have enough to sell at the fair - so I'm sure they will be back!

Hello hello, I am London Clay Birds lady (I think this may be a new take on 'the mad cat lady'). I'm absolutely delighted my birds are receiving so much attention! I sold out a couple of times last week on folksy, couldn't keep up! I shall endeavour to list more today and have another fire planned this week which means I can attempt to supply the demand. If you are interested, I shall be at the Abney Hall Christmas Fairs on the 12th and 19th in Stoke Newington, great opportunity for filling your stockings!
Anyway, thank you so much for plug, all the very best and Happy Christmas.
